Sustainable Localities Lab offers several courses for the graduate students of Graduate School of Urban Studies (GSUS), Hanyang University. The courses cover a variety of topics related to transformation and sustainable development of localities, including urban regeneration and neighbourhood community building, community and urban gardening, children-friendly cities, walkable streets and placemaking etc. In our courses, diverse case studies from East Asia and Europe are discussed and compared.

Undergraduates and graduate students of other departments and exchange students at the Hanyang University are also welcome to join our courses. Prospective students are required to contact the administration office of their department and/or Hanyang University International Office to get permission before applying to our course. Please, make sure that you apply on time, because application approval can take up to two weeks and needs to be completed before the semester.

  • Theory of Urban and Local Culture (도시지역문화론:);
  • Urban Sociology (도시사회학);
  • Urban Regeneration and Social Sustainability (도시재생과사회적지속가능성);
  • Urbanisation and Social Change in East Asia (동아시아의 도시화와 사회 변화).

All courses are taught in English for three hours a week (which brings you 3 credits). When needed, Korean summaries are also provided. Written course materials need to be submitted in English while oral presentations can be in English or Korean.

Many international students attend our courses, which makes them a great opportunity to build international friendships and broaden their knowledge by exchanging ideas and learning from fellow students with different professional and cultural backgrounds. Come and see…
